New Years Eve Party 2011

As already in 2010, the Rökefloose had again the idea to celebrate and say goodbye to the year 2011 with a great and joyful party. There came many guests from near and far to celebrate this event, one guest even came all the way from Carinthia. [more]

Tour to Hamburg Dungeon

On Sunday December 11 the Rökefloose invited brave Frisians to take part in a journey to the Hamburg Dungeon. Eleven youngsters, who were not afraid, stood strong against the evil forces. At 9 o´clock the trip started from Risum-Skole and arrived in Hamburg three hours later. We were full of anticipation for the upcoming event. Luckily, due to a prior registration there was no waiting time for us. [more]

Go-Kart

In summer 2011 Rökefloose organised a trip to Skærbæk to live it up on the Go-Kart tracks. On the August 12 at 9:30 the journey began. The drive to Skærbæk seemed to be quick, thanks to funny anecdotes  and lots of music. [more]

Spiders and other earthlings in Bautzen

Under the direction of the Sorbian spider gang („Pawk“ in English spider) this years Youth Leader Seminar 2011 was organized in Bautzen. The hosts have stoped at no trouble to provide a diverse program and to give everybody of the approx. 70 participants with different cultural backgrounds an extraordinary experience. To get a feeling of the location the seminar started with a city tour, where everybody had the possibility to experience the 138 steps in one of the many towers in Bautzen. Amongst others the most important Sorbian institutions, such as the house of the Sorbs and the Sorbian museum, were visited. [more]

Minorities and tourism

In July, the Northschleswigans invited to an exchange on the island of Rømø with the topic ”Between culture and commerce - Minorities and tourism”. Here the Rökefloose discussed together with Kashubians, South Tyroleans, Sorbs, Burgenland Croats and the Northschleswigans whether tourism is good for the minorities and how the minority can attract. Fun was always included with the approximately 30 young people from Europe, beach sailing, horse-drawn carriage and the Wadden Sea were on the program.

"Minorities in Europe - between European participation and preservation of ethnic identity"

In Hanover this summer, a new minority project was started, which originates from the majority. The seminar, which took place in Stephansstift, the Center for Adult Education, will serve as a prelude for a network that connects not only the minorities themselves, but also the minorities with the majority.[more]

Singing for Amateurs - Voices of Europe 2011 in Fryslân

This years Voices of Europe took place between 29 sheep, 2 horses and a breeze of fresh countryside air in Engelum/Ingelum in Fryslân. For one week the 30 motivated participants went in single file to the church of Ingelum early in the morning. The choir practiced daily in the church. In a few days the choir group had to learn several songs. The idea was that every participating minority would bring a song in their language from their home region. [more - with a sound sample]

Easter Seminar 2011 in Christianslyst

Traditionally around Easter, this year between the 16th and the 22nd of April, the annual Easterseminar of YEN took place – in the beautiful German-Danish boarderregion. The 120 participants were invitetd by the youth organization SdU into the training and congress center Christianslyst just next to Süderbrarup. The seminar stood under the slogan „The Streets of Voluntariness“. [more]

To close the old year and to proper celebrate the upcoming new year, the idea came up to organize a border-crossing event together with the Germans from Denmark and the Danes from Germany. [more]

Güle güle – A North Frisian in Istanbul

In between Europe and Asia lies the capital of culture 2010: Istanbul. Chaotic and without any plan millions of people are trying to thread their way through the city. In the middle of everything a little North Frisian tries to settle in. Without any perceptible success. Ah… there comes a helpful German Turk and orders two cups of tea for us. Sometimes it seems like the Turks are drinking more tea than the East Frisians, though this claim is open to question. Anyhow… The tea has to be finished because we have a very full programme. The island calls...

Et Ailönj teelt - the island calls This call was followed by 13 young North Frisians and North Schleswigans who came to the beautiful North Sea island Amrum for five days. We stayed in a hostel in the middle of the dunes just a few meters from the beach. One of our program points was an intensive bike tour with an islander who showed us the sights of his home island. At any attraction he gave us both competent, as well as interesting historical and cultural background infomation. [more]

YLS 2010 i Bleiburg/Østrig

Jenny Jürgensen, Hiltje Boysen and Jana Ewaldsen were on their way the 13th September of 2010 to YLS by JEV in Bleiburb/Pilberk. First we drove to the airport of Hamburg so we could fly to Wien. From Wien we took the long journey with the train to Blieburg. Later came also other Frisians, like Momme and Berit Nommensen, to seminar in autumn.[more]

Easter Seminar 2010 in Ohrid, Macedonia

On the 27th of March we (Jenny, Berit, Hiltje, Jana) started the journey to the distant Macedonia for the Easter Seminar of the Youth of European Nationalities (YEN).[more]

Surf-exchange 2009

From the 31st of July till the 7th of August the Junge SPitzen invited to an surf exchange for the first time in the history of European national and autochthon minorities. Among the 30 participants were Romansh people, Kashubians, Burgenland Croats, Aromanians, North Frisians, South Schleswigans and some North Schleswigans. They were all gathered with the motto "Surfing Europe 2009", in the nice little town of Schelde in northern Schleswig.[mehr]

Easterseminar 2009 in Modra/Slowakei

After our flight from Hamburg to Vienna and our bus trip to Bratislava we have been guided by a very careful bus driver to our bus to Modra. Finally we arrived at our accommodation in Modra which is located in the largest wine region of Slowakia. On the next day we went to a former government building close to Modra in order to celebrate anniversary of 25 years YEN and 60 years FUEN together with the official guests. Furthermore every youth organisation had the possibility to present its minority and organisation to the guests on an official Exchange Market. The days after the ceremony the official seminar program started under the topic “Spout of culture”. [more]

Snowexchange 2009

Before going to the Snowexchange, I enjoyed a few days in Switzerlands secret capital Zurich. Together with Fabs from SDU I took the train to Waltensburg/Vuorz, which is a small town in the real mountains of Gaubunden, in the south of Switzerland. Also the westfrisians took the same train. However we first realized that after arriving in Vuorz. Before taking the bus to our camp, it was time for a small chat and some drinks in the local bar. After arriving, everyone went for a small nightwalk, where we where tought some old stories about the castle of Vuorz and where we could have some hot wine. [more]

Biike 2009

As every year on the 21st of February in Northfrisia, young and old met to celebrate Biikebrånen in Risum-Lindholm, the annual Frisian festivity. Traditionally the fire was enlightened at 7pm at the Üülje Browäi in Lindholm. The special highlight of this years Biike was the Maddelålder Floose, a group practicing medieval times, who walked with torches from the center of Risum to the Biike to enlighten the fire. Even though the weather wasn’t that nice, Frisians call it Biike weather, people were singing and enjoying the fire. [more]

Footballgame against the Sorbs

From the 15th – 17th August 2008 the Northfrisian womens national footballteam together with management, equipment boss and Sibylle, the woman from the navigation software went to a town near Bautzen to visit the Sorbian minority. In connection with the Voices of Europe which was located in Räckelwitz at this time, a Football game between Sorbian and Frisian girls took place. It was an exciting game even though the “friendly game” was taken serious by the Sorbian girls. On the last minute of the game the referee decided 2:1 for the Sorbian girls, because of a not-confirmed mistake of the Frisian team. [more]

Added Value of Minorities

With huge success the largest European minority youth organisation, the Youth of European Nationalities (YEN) carried through its Whitsun Seminar 2008 in the Danish town of Gravenstein/Gråsten from 7-12 May. The hosts of the seminar with over 120 participants from all over Europe were Junge SPitzen and DJN – Deutscher Jugendverband für Nordschleswig. Both organisations represent the German minority from south Denmark in YEN. [more]

Youth Leader Seminar 2007

Also this time the Rökefloose was at the YLS (Youth Leader Seminar) 2007 on the island of Skylge at our friends and hosts from the Westfrisian minority. The seminar was from the 16th – 21st of October and we (Marlene and Berit) where two of 73 people from 17 different European countries. This years theme was: `Minority = / ≠ Island`. Hence we got a lot to know about the Westfrisian language and their work with the tourism, school (trilingual) and the actual media situation. [more]

Rio Reiser Festival 2007 in Fresenhagen

On August 18 the Rökefloose organized in cooperation with Friisk Forning a rock concert in the Frisian language. The concert was organized in the framework of the regionally known Rio Reiser Festival in Fresenhagen from the 17-18th of August. The aim of the concert was to present modern Frisian rock music to the general young public of Northern Friesland. [more]
